This portrait was entitled Pensive Woman for the Scottish Gallery retrospec- tive in 1990. Partial labels suggest it had been exhibited prior to this with the title Brownie. This would seem to relate the sitter to another portrait in the collection, entitled Brownie (cat.31) but annotated in photographs as Lady Fell, and therefore to identify the sitter in both as Lady Fell. Her jacket would suggest that this portrait dates from the 1970s or 80s.
