Two contemporary photos of this work are each inscribed with the name 'Lady Fell'. Although dressed in masculine attire, the sitter does bear a striking resemblance to the lady depicted in the later painting, Pensive Woman (cat.39), which is also inscribed 'Brownie', apparently confirming that they are indeed of the same person.
