Macdonald exhibited a painting entitled Houses at Ronda at the RSA Annual Exhibition of 1928 giving the address of The Scottish Arts Club. This was a period when he and Beatrice spent much of their time painting abroad, prior to their purchase of their flat at 116 Hanover Street.
