This still life is painted in the style of a poster design with strong Art Deco influences shown in the contrasting black and orange, the grid format and the incorporation of the date into the design which also references Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Beatrice plays with two and three- dimensional planes giving a trompe l'oeil effect. Dating from a period when she was living and working in London this painting, along with the Abdulla poster in the collection, suggests that she may have sought commercial commissions as a graphic artist. Both certainly show her stylistic versatility and her awareness of contemporary design. Whether her work was actually used commercially is not known.
