Brigadier Ian Buchanan-Dunlop CBE (1908-1979)

Born Whitefield, Lancashire. Painter in watercolour and Indian ink and mainly of landscapes. Son of A.H.Buchanan-Dunlop. Educated at the Loretto School; self-taught in art. He was mainly influenced by J.C.T. Willis and the events of his early life when he lived in India, Malaysia and Honk Kong. His style is consistently representational, increasingly aimed at the depiction of light. In its honest unpretentiousness, its clarity and its deftness in dealing with light his work is a beacon in Modern Scottish Art.
